NCAA Basketball Prediction in a Flash
Sat, Jul 5, 2008 by Nash Castro
Since the NCAA already had a week’s worth of action, I will make this quicker.
Seniors:
1. San Beda College – forget Emeka Udo, they got Jake Pascual. With an intact lineup, it is more than enough to guarantee a three-peat.
2. Jose Rizal University – what is keeping the Heavy Bombers from reaching the next level are themselves. Here is a believer in me.
3. Colegio de San Juan de Letran – on paper, the Knights do not have much to show. But head coach Louie Alas always manages to pull off a surprise every season.
4. Mapua Institute of Technology – if the Cardinals were able to enter the final four last year playing seven-deep, what more could they do with added cohesion?
5. San Sebastian College Recoletos – for yet another season, the Stags would play the role of darkhorse. Other coaches are harping on Baste, but I am not sold… yet.
6. De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde – new coach, new outlook, and hopefully new results.
7. University of Perpetual Help System Dalta – I can not even think how coach Bai Cristobal could wake up from this nightmare.
8. Philippine Christian University – the Dolphins get default last place for being suspended last year.

Juniors:
1. San Sebastian College Recoletos – Palarong Pambansa, Nike Summer League, and almost another one in Fr. Martin Cup. And these were just during the offseason.
2. San Beda College – one word: Ato Badolato.
3. Jose Rizal University – contrary to popular belief, the Light Bombers go deeper beyond Jasper Agovida.
4. University of Perpetual Help System Dalta – besides under-16 National Team trainee Joseph Eriobu, the Altalettes have a bunch of guys that could light up the scoreboard in a minute.
5. Colegio de San Juan de Letran – scoring machine Kevin Alas would have another season to do what he does best.
6. La Salle Greenhills – of the four M. Reyeses in the lineup, Martin and Mikee would garner the most attention.
7. Malayan High School of Science – moving on…
In summary, both seniors and juniors follow the same trend: six-deep (for some reason, people are wary of PCU) with one team that stands out as the heavy favourite.
