James Sena (JRU) – Sure, it was the Heavy Bombers’ long-range bombs (21/65 3pts last week) that was the story last week. But Sena was the most consistent Bomber, topscoring in both occasions (18 pts vs CSB, 7/23; 14 pts vs MIT 7/25), while getting his regular quota of rebounds (13 rebs, 8 off rebs, vs SBC; 7 rebs vs MIT).
(1) Dino Daa (CSJL) – Daa, a double-double machine (17 pts, 14 rebs, 4 asts vs MIT, 7/23). Mark that.
Neil Pascual (MIT) – Speaking of double-doubles, Pascual had two (10 pts, 10 rebs, 1 blk vs CSJL, 7/23; 13 pts, 14 rebs, 3 asts vs JRU, 7/25) last week after four near double-doubles.
(7) Marc Cagoco (JRU) – The “Super Saiyan” was at it again (18 pts, 6/18 3pts vs SBC, 7/23; 10 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts vs MIT, 7/25). He shot a tad better than John Wilson (10 ppg, 21% fgs, 6.5 rpg last week). That is always a plus. JR Bulangis gets a shoutout for a near double-double (9 pts, 4 rebs, 8 asts, 1 blk vs SBC, 7/23) and for going 5/5 at the three-point area last week.
(9) Jason Ballesteros (SSCR) – Getting a mention as a possible player of the week is already an achievement for, ahem, “Gagamboy”. He had Ekwe-like numbers (6.5 ppg, 15 rpg, 5 bpg) last week.
(2) Sam Ekwe (SBC) – Ekwe went down from Mount Olympus to be a mere mortal last week. His 14.2 rpg for this season is still impressive and he tied the season-high with another 20-reb game against the Altas (7/21). That is one thing going for him.
(4) Pong Escobal (SBC) – On any other week, these statlines would be downright spectacular (13 pts, 6 rebs, 7 asts vs UPHSD, 7/21; 16 pts, 5/8 fgs, 5 rebs, 8 asts vs JRU, 7/23). Just that the others were more glaring.
Jim Viray (SSCR) – Viray got its game going last week (23 pts, 9 rebs, 5 3pts vs PCU, 7/21; 15 pts vs CSB, 7/25). That should be good news for Stags seniors basketball head coach Jorge Gallent.
Jeff Morial (CSB) – The Blazers are gradually sliding back to their role of having a token player per week (22 pts, 6 rebs, 3 stls vs SSCR, 7/25).
Beau Belga (PCU) – Belga finally had a breakout game of sorts (20 pts, 10 rebs, 6 tos, 2 pfs vs SSCR, 7/21). However, the support was not there as Liz Amparado and Lei Mar Navarro were limited to a total of six points in that match.
