th_006505_1372delapenamit.jpg1 (9) Kelvin dela Peña (MIT) – Asked who my player of the week was, from the top of my head I replied TG Guillermo (22 pts, 5/8 3pts, 25 mins total vs UPHSD, 7/9, and CSB, 7/11). But looking back at the stat sheets, dela Peña was not a bad choice after all (11.7 ppg, 8 rpg, 4.7 apg, 2.3 spg, 7/7-7/11).

(5) Neil Pascual (MIT) – With the weird way the first round of games are scheduled, it can be quite inevitable that some teams would dominate some weeks. Case in point, we have two Cardinals in the top two. But, it does not hurt if you are consistent (12 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts vs PCU, 7/7; 9 pts, 11 rebs, 8 off rebs, 5 asts, 2 stls vs UPHSD 7/9; 12 rebs vs CSB, 7/11).

(1) RJ Jazul (CSJL) – After scoring 37 pts, finishing with 20 (vs PCU, 7/11) is just a ‘conservative’ number. The thing is, “The Blue Knight” (I do hope somebody else picks up this nickname) also put out 6 rebs, 6 stls, and 2 blks against the Dolphins. Let me repeat that one stat: TWO BLOCKS! Have about three more games with two or more rejections, and I will have him in the Dondon Hontiveros School of Shotblocking Guards.

Beau Belga (PCU) – His playing weight is unorthodox, he attracts fouls like fruitflies to a banana (15 pfs in 4 gms), but whatever we throw at him, the fact remains that he is the most battle-scarred Dolphin in the roster. Besides steady numbers (15 pts, 5/5 2pts, 7 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls, 1 blk vs MIT, 7/7; 8 pts, 13 rebs, 3 asts vs SBC, 7/9), he somewhat contained Sam Ekwe in their personal battle (vs SBC). And if anybody is keeping score, after two games bringing down the ball (vs SBC, and vs CSJL, 7/11), Belga is now eligible for the point guard position in fantasy leagues.

(6) James Sena (JRU) – For someone having a standout season, Sena is doing it without much fanfare (21 pts, 3 stls, 2 blks vs CSB, 7/7). Maybe because JRU does not have those three-games-a-week schedule for the first round.

Marc Cagoco (JRU) – “Super Saiyan” Marc Ca-Gokou had 20 pts on 5/8 3pts plus 3 stls against CSB (7/7). That is not surprisingly really. Just be more consistent and you will be less cringe-worthy whenever I watch you hoist those outside bombs.

Lei Mar Navarro (PCU) – Just asking loudly. How come I did not hear anything from Navarro during the time the Dolphins were suspended? Then again, he is performing as if he was never away for a year (15 pts, 3/8 3pts, 1 blk vs MIT, 7/7; 16 pts, 4 asts, 2 stls vs SBC, 7/9).

Ronald Reyes (UPHSD) – More than a consolation for having no Alta last week (blame the stats which needed some getting used to), Reyes dished out decent digits for this week’s edition (22 pts, 9/16 fgs vs MIT, 7/9). Which now leads me to ask, whatever happened to Mike Kong? After 14 pts on opening day (vs SSCR, 6/28), he just became invisible offensively (6 ppg, 4/17 fgs in last 2 gms).

Borgie Hermida (SBC) – What? No Sam Ekwe, Pong Escobal, nor Ogie Menor in the power rankings? Crazy! Preposterous even. But hey, if not for that undergoal go-ahead basket against the Dolphins (7/9) and then some (17 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls vs PCU), circumstances might have been different now for the Red Lions.

Raffy Ynion (UPHSD) – Ynion actually had a better week in the previous week (12 pts, 60% fgs, 8 rebs vs SSCR, 6/28; 10 pts, 71% fgs, 7 rebs vs CSB, 7/2). So yeah, count this as a make-up of sorts. But his statline for this week is not bad really (10 pts, 5/6 fgs, 8 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls, 1 blk vs MIT, 7/9).
