(2) Sam Ekwe (SBC) - San Beda now has a new offensive weapon and it is called "The Ekwelizer". He has grown beyond his slam dunking and shot blocking imposing self into a more finesse and more multi-dimensional midrange threat (15.4 ppg). Ekwe has topscored for the Red Lions for the last five games (19 pts vs UPHSD, 17 pts vs JRU, this week). He has gotten more touches and he has been more aggressive in taking the shot (161 fg att this season). Although his shots are less than consistent (45% fg this season), it is enough to give coaches bouts of migraine. Best of all, his rebounds are still there (14.1 rpg; 13 rebs vs UPHSD, 12 rebs, 3 blks vs JRU). If the Red Lions coaching staff invested this much energy in one player, I wonder if the transfer of technology went the other way instead.
Jim Viray (SSCR) - Have more games like this (22 pts, 5/7 3pts, 6 rebs vs CSJL, 8/20) and Viray would be an upgrade from Red Vicente v2.0.
Pong Escobal (SBC) - After weeks of being virtually invisible, Escobal woke up once more. He might had a mere 9 pts plus crap-awful 4 tos against the Altas (8/18), but he made up for it with 5 rebs and 6 asts. Then in the Heavy Bombers game (8/22), it was vintage Pong with 15 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts, and 1 blk. If anyone is taking note, he has not missed a ft in the last four games, going 15/15 at the line (81% for the season). Chris Tiu references in three, two, one...
Dino Daa (CSJL) - Having 9 pts is a bad game for Daa (vs SSCR, 8/20). But his 13 rebs, 5 asts, 3 stls, 1 blk, 4 tos in 32 mins are not. Another person who had a 9-13 (vs SBC, 8/22) game is Marvin Hayes (JRU). The main difference is that Daa had a better statline that is why he gets a bigger billing.
(3) Jason Ballesteros (SSCR) - Rumor has it that in unofficial unpublished league stats, Ballesteros is ahead in statistical points. No wonder. His performance against the Knights (11 pts, 14 rebs, 3 blks, 8/20) are his season averages (9.9 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 3.7 bpg).
John Wilson (JRU) - For Wilson, shooting 4/8 fgs for 10 pts (vs SBC, 8/22) is ok stats for him. His 5 rebs, 4 asts, 5 stls, and 1 blk make it more impressive.
Mike Kong (UPHSD) - Guess who joined the party, it is the nowhere man, Mike Kong. He has been scoring in double digits recently (17 pts, 7/13 fgs, 3/6 3pts vs SBC, 8/18; 12 pts, 7 rebs, 2 stls vs PCU, 8/22) like it was last season.
Ogie Menor (SBC) - Something is amiss with Menor this season, I just could not put my finger into it. His numbers this week (18 pts, 6 stls vs UPHSD, 8/18; 13 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stls vs JRU, 8/22) made sure he is still talked about though.
RJ Jazul (CSJL) - With a bloodied jaw, he still managed to put up 15 pts, 6/6 fts, and 3 asts against the Stags (8/20). I was on my way on counting his percentages at the 15th parallel, but somehow, UBelt.com does not show his per game stats.
Jeff Morial (CSB) - This week's number ten should be the whole Blazers squad. Despite having four wins, it is rare to see them play as a team. I put Morial as the face of the team because he had the most impressive shooting (18 pts, 5/10 2pts, 2/2 3pts vs MIT, 8/20). Anjelo Montecastro gets second dibs because of his better than usual statline (10 pts, 5/8 fgs, 4 asts, 4 stls vs MIT, 8/20). Then there is Dustin Posadas, who took player of the game honours with 9 pts and 18 mins. Chuck Dalanon was a two and two short for a double-double. Finally, Illie Johnston had 11 rebs despite only 3 pts.
