NCAA Power Rankings (Aug 6 - Aug 8)
Tue, Aug 12, 2008 by Nash Castro
Jason Ballesteros (SSCR) - Ballesteros is no longer the poor man's version of Sam Ekwe. He is now Ekwe ver 2.0 (17 rebs, 8 blks vs PCU, 8/6; 12 pts, 19 rebs, 2 stls, 6 blks, game-winning block vs MIT, 8/8).
Dino Daa (CSJL) - He is "Daa" man (20 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts vs CSB, 8/6).
Beau Belga (PCU) - Belga sure made the bland Stags-Dolphins game become a tad interesting, making himself the center of attention with his shenanigans. His stats were not bad (14 pts, 1/1 3pt, 8 rebs vs SSCR, 8/6). Better still, he kept his fouls in check and he was able to give two duty fouls late in the game to finish with 4 pfs.
Jim Viray (SSCR) - Move over, Viray, you are now relegated as the team's second-best player. Decent numbers still (15 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stls vs PCU, 8/6; 11 pts, 5 rebs vs MIT, 8/8). Maybe it is just a matter of having a more consistent third option. Raymond Maconocido? Dave Najorda? Gilbert Bulawan? Jimbo Aquino? Froilan Saquillo? Jorge Gallent? Anyone?
Ronald Reyes (UPHSD) - Ronald Reyes is now officially the do-it-all man for the Altas (12 pts, 3/6 3pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls, 7 tos vs JRU, 8/8).
Raffy Ynion (UPHSD) - After some games where he was in oblivion, Ynion showed up with a double-double against the Bombers (11 pts, 4/7 fgs, 11 rebs, 8/8). Mike Kong gets a shoutout for a decent statline (8 pts, 10 rebs, 4 asts vs JRU, 8/8).
(9) RJ Jazul (CSJL) - Given that Rey Guevarra was the man of the game (see below), Jazul gets a higher ranking for being able to contribute more (12 pts, 6/6 fts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls, 6 tos vs CSB, 8/6).
Robbie Mañalac (CSB) - Ending up in a triple tie are Mañalac, Garri Sevilla, and Chuck Dalanon finishing with 12 pts (vs CSJL, 8/6). However, the former FEU team B player gets top billing for having the best statline (5/5 2pts, 2/2 fts, 7 rebs, 4 stls). Dalanon gets a mention for his 4 rebs, 2 blks, 6 tos.
Rey Guevarra (CSJL) - Guevarra woke up in this game, leading the third quarter run that broke the game wide open (vs CSB, 8/6). Other than that, he duplicated his season high (14 pts).
Allan Mangahas (MIT) - Three Cardinals get the spotlight for different reasons. Just want to highlight Mangahas' all-around stats though (9 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls, 1 blk vs SSCR, 8/8). Neil Pascual gets a mention for missing a double-double in two ways (9 pts, 9 rebs vs SSCR, 8/8) and for Jonathan Banal, if they were able to preserve the win, that clutch three plus decent stats (11 pts, 2/4 3pts, 3 rebs vs SSCR, 8/8).
