NCAA Power Rankings (July 14 - July 18)

Dino Daa (CSJL) – Daa has been the Knights’ version of Sam Ekwe, not because he is an intimidating presence, but those rebound numbers look cool (19 rebs vs SSCR, 7/16; 13 rebs, vs UPHSD, 7/18). His other stats are not bad at all (26 pts vs SSCR; 17 pts, 4 asts, 4 stls vs UPHSD).
Sam Ekwe (SBC) – Speaking of Ekwe, as if on cue, he is on the second spot (17 pts, 11 rebs, 2 blks vs SSCR, 7/14; 12 pts, 20 rebs, 3 stls, 3 asts vs CSB, 7/18). His most glaring stat of all: 0 dunks the whole season. Meanwhile, he also maintained his one-headline-outside-of-basketball quota per season.
(3) RJ Jazul (CSJL) – His 11 pts against the Stags (7/16) look subdued, but he made it up in other departments (7 rebs, 5asts). Then there is that game against the Altas (26 pts, 6/12 3pts, 8/8 fts, 6 rebs, 4 asts, 2 stls, clutch baskets, 7/18). Some may say that the dramatic comeback was unnecessary since it was the Knights who dug their own 20-point hole early in the second quarter. To them, I say the Red Lions’ overtime win against the Stags was unnecessary also.
Pong Escobal (SBC) – Which then leads us to Escobal, his key reverse layup and his 21 points against the Stags (7/14). That was his highlight of the week. His 13 pts, 3 rebs, 6 asts against the Blazers (7/18) was quite ordinary especially the game was a blowout.
(8) Ronald Reyes (UPHSD) – Let us just forget that he only had 8 pts against the Heavy Bombers (7/16). He has been the do-it-all guy for the Altas (23 pts, 5 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls vs PCU, 7/14; 11 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts, 4 stls vs CSJL, 7/18)
(7) Lei Navarro (PCU) – While Beau Belga is still solving his issue with personal fouls, Navarro has stepped for the Dolphins (21 pts, 7/16 fgs, 3 asts, 2 stls vs UPHSD, 7/14).
(6) Marc Cagoco (JRU) – Once again, the stats had a Murphy moment. Not entirely my fault if the only good thing I saw in this game is the 21 pts of the “Super Saiyan” against the Altas (7/16).
Ogie Menor (SBC) – This is something you do not see often, a double-double from Menor (13 pts, 12 rebs vs SSCR, 7/14). His 12 pts against the Blazers (7/18) was decent at the least.
Jason Ballesteros (SSCR) – Talk about a career game (16 pts, 15 rebs vs SBC, 7/14). If that was the only match the Stags had for the week, his stock might have risen. He returned to becoming mortal against the Knights (7 pts, 7 rebs, 7/16).
Jimbo Aquino (SSCR) – Speaking of Stags and breakout games, Aquino was a pleasant surprise (13 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts vs SBC, 7/14; team-high 13 pts vs CSJL, 7/16). Jim Viray (11 pts, 5 rebs vs SBC, 7/14; 10 pts, 7 rebs vs CSJL, 7/16) and Froilan Saquillo (9 pts, 7 rebs vs SBC, 7/14; 12 pts, 11 rebs vs CSJL, 7/16) were relatively just as good. If only they could be more consistent and translate these performances to wins.
