We Demand Respect By: A DLSU Green Archer Fan

Middle finger salute for the haterz Every year something incredibly appaling happens in the world of Filipino basketball. The newest home TV shopping channel to rent the PBA broadcast for the season, the PBL welcoming yet another junk food company to the fold, college teams collecting a bunch of tall pipecleaners who has never heard of the sport. But all that pales in comparison to the travesty we La Sallians have to endure in an annual basis. I'm talking about the sheer and utter indifference by the sporting community towards our school and our team each and every year! I thought winning the title and re-establishing our elite status would help garner us the respect we deserve, but I guessed wrong.

Internet message boards and newspaper columns have FEU as the number 1 seed and some even go as far as to say UP is number 2. What is that about?! We're the fucking defending champions for crying out loud! Who really gives a shit if FEU wins some lame tournament? Beating up ugly, sweaty newspaper boys from the alleys of Manila and the provinces, that plays out of control looks good on TV, but that's nothing when you go up against a team that will slap the full court press on you for hours on end and riddle your so-called defense with a steady concoction of inside and outside scoring. Besides, didn't Adamson win a couple of tournaments before the season started? Look where that got them. And UP? LOL! Wow, some lame team starts making a run for the Final Four like Cinderella, let's jump on the fucking bandwagon! If you idiots started hopping and pooling your money on a "real" team instead of a pretender, you'd still have cash left to buy a pair of glasses and a box of Think-a-thon because you guys sure need it!

I don't get this anti-La Salle diatribe going on. Is it because we give too much importance to defense and fundamentals instead of dunking at every opportunity and ripping off NBA gang signals? We tried the latter with Maierhoffer but that didn't work out too well; One heckler called out to him and yelled "Not too hard, Rico!" I don't know what that means exactly but I'm pretty sure it'a an insult! Do we have to send our "own" to a huge channel so we could influence some good publicity? Well, we have Mike Enriquez but he doesn't count. Is it because our players are too cocky? Hey, Adamson has Marky Mark regurgitating his saliva after every lucky shot he makes, but he's on the headline of pre-season articles.

Well keep on underestimating us then because it just makes us more angry and bad things happen when we're angry -- like winning titles. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing just that it's bad for you but it's good for us. The titles, I mean.
